About Advanced Guidance 21
Our Roots and Vision
Advanced Guidance 21 was conceived and launched by the Union City (IN) Education Foundation, in collaboration with the Randolph Eastern School Corporation. We are a small town foundation serving a small town public school.
We believe we have insights based on working, literally, at ground zero that will be helpful to those in similar settings. We believe our contribution will be worthy of a seat at the table of 21st Century deliberation about education's role in a world vastly different from the 20th Century.
Recognizing that Pillars Have Collapsed
Most of the 20th Century included these reliable pillars:
- Four-Year Degrees were the key to success.
- College was affordable.
- Non degree seekers had ready employment in America's manufacturing focused economy.
- Curricula was text-book based and affordable.
- Skilled teachers were plentiful and affordable.
- Philanthropic giving could be focused on support of 4-year degree seekers.
- The job market was stable, supporting the objective of a career spent with the same employer.
NONE of these pillars have survived intact, and the education community has reacted slowly, if at all, to the ramifications.
